"A Hunter in the Snow" by William Carlos Williams
Painting "Hunters in the Snow" by Pieter Brueghel (1565)
First impression: I do not like this poem. I hate structure for structure's sake. I don't like having to figure out how the words fit together in order to understand the poem. Obviously the structuring is intentional, but is the writer intentionally making the poem difficult to read?
What's written is merely a description of the paintings' elements. That's it. In my opinion it is the run-on structure of this "description" is the only thing that makes it a poem.
